Bird
A moment to unwind in the city.
Set in Sotokanda near Suehirocho Station, Bird pairs traditional kissaten charm with generous tuna bowls, sashimi sets, and post-meal coffee.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Step into this vintage kissaten and browse the menu, and dishes like tuna rice bowls and sashimi sets immediately catch your eye. Located in Sotokanda, Chiyoda Ward, Bird maintains the warm ambiance of an old-school Japanese coffeehouse while drawing regulars for quality tuna shipped directly from Toyosu Market.
A highlight of the menu is the maguro don, topped with generous, thick-cut slices of lean akami and medium-fatty chutoro tuna. Instead of standard soup, it arrives with a warm bowl of small udon alongside light pickles, making for a distinctly approachable and satisfying spread. Diners who prefer to savor their tuna separately can opt for the tuna sashimi set meal. This set includes miso soup, a small side dish, and a raw egg, giving you the pleasure of beating the egg over freshly steamed rice to enjoy alongside the sashimi.
Shelves of manga line the walls, and the counter and table seats are arranged with comfortable breathing room, making it easy to drop in alone. After lunch, lingering over a clean, straightforward cup of kissaten coffee rounds out the visit, before the space shifts into serving evening drinks and seafood dishes. Payment is cash only, so keep bills and coins ready when visiting.
